Morning y’all and welcome! It is officially July, which means there is less than one month until Andee Lynn turns one year old. Can we all just pause for a moment and let that thought sink in… *big sigh*
Okay, now where was I, oh yes… this means that I have less than one month to get everything planned for her birthday party! The restrictions for COVID have been lifted for Albertans, so we have decided to have a small-ish, mostly family gathering to celebrate. Originally I was stressing so much about making sure Andee’s birthday party was perfect, but then a friend pointed out to me that 1) Andee isn’t even going to remember this party and 2) who am I really trying to impress anyway?
So after several months of playing around with different ideas in my head, I have finally settled on what I am going to do. Andee was gifted a book from my nephew for Christmas called, “You’re My Little Cuddle Bug”. It’s all about cute little cuddle bugs and their mamas, though I guess it could be dads too. So I have decided to do a little girly cuddle bug theme, and I think it is going to be SO cute! The decorations are going to be pretty minimal and it’s mainly the cupcakes and cakes that I am making that will show off the cuddle bug theme.
Here is what I am thinking…
Decorations
Sweets
Food
Now, how much of this I will actually get done between now and Andee’s birthday on August 1st is the true question. The food ideas (minus the sweets) are pretty simple to implement, and I’ll probably do a charcuterie board for the adults.
The decorations will take a bit of time, but also not super hard to make. I am going to for sure do the upcycling with recycled bottles and cans as a fun crafting project with Andee. I’ll get simple flowers like what is shown in the picture and call it good.
The little fireflies are so, so cute and they are made by painting pasta with glow-in-the-dark paint and some hot glue gunning. So still fairly simple and I can put them out as decorations and then give them to the kids as party favors when they leave. This will be something I do very last minute just in case I run out of time trying to get more important things finished, like the cake!
I’ll also need to make little tags to label the food and figure out how I am going to display everything in the back yard. I’ll definitely need a table of some sort, so probably a table cover as well, and then different serving platters. I might go to Goodwill to browse through what they have in terms of serving platters so that I am not breaking the bank.
As for the sweets… this is going to be the most time consuming of all. The same girlfriend that I mentioned earlier use to own a bakery and is a phenomenal baker. Though we live thousands of miles apart, she is going to walk me through some of the baking stuff via FaceTime. I for sure want to do a little cake for Andee and either the cupcakes or cookies for everyone else… I’m still undecided. Maybe I’ll end up doing both and the cookies will be the party favor. Who knows! I really love baking, but haven’t done much of it in several years, nor have I really done much with fondant, like ever. But I am excited to give it a try and have my girlfriend help me out.
Anyway, what do y’all think of this plan? Do you think I can get it all done? Oh, and do you have any other ideas to implement? Let me know in the comments below! Happy day y’all!
